Class Information & Getting Help

My Schedule

All of my classes are in G-102 and I can be found there before or after school.  If you need extra help, please sign up on the “Extra Help Signups” sheet by the door.  You can come by to see me without signing up, but I can’t guarantee I’ll be available.  During 6th period, I occasionally meet with other teachers, so I am not always available then.

  • Before school – in or around G102 by 8:15 most days
  • 1st Period – AP Statistics
  • 2nd Period – Free, but room in use – find me in room H217 most of the time
  • 3rd Period – AP Statistics
  • 4th Period – Algebra 1
  • 5th Period – Fractals & Chaos
  • 6th Period – Free (days 1, 3, 5 only)
  • 7th Period – Free
  • 8th Period – Algebra 1
  • After school – in or around G102 until 4:30 most days

Classroom Rules

Generally, I only have two rules:

  1. Everybody must show respect, and
  2. Everybody must show responsibility

I like to leave it up to the students to create around six more specific rules for what these two things mean. This year, the class came up with the following:

  1. Participate in class. Talk to your group during discussions. Always attempt to answer all questions.
  2. Listen while others are talking. Only one person should ever be talking at a time. Respond to others in a positive and respectful way.
  3. If you are not in the room with the bell rings (and you haven’t checked in), you are late. Come in quietly with a pass and sign in.
  4. Cell phones should be used for family-related purposes only, and only after checking with the teacher first.
  5. Listening to music during independent work is okay, but turn it off if asked.
  6. Come prepared to class every day with binder, calculator, and Chromebook
  7. Spend some time every night on HW. Partially completed assignments finished later will not be marked late.

Getting Extra Help

Naturally, I want all of my students to do well, so I’m more than happy to meet with you to help you out.  Drop by or sign up and I’ll make a point to make myself available to assist you with whatever you’re having trouble with.  I am not your only source for help, though. There are also Math Homework Help rooms during lunch periods, Math Content Area Labs and Tutoring.

Math Homework Help Room

If you have a lunch period, you have access to additional help. On odd days, visit one of the rooms below during your lunch to get some assistance on homework, test corrections, or studying from a math teacher in the department.

  • 3rd period – H202 – Mr. Cole, Mr. Deppe, Mr. Weissburg
  • 4th period – G103 – Ms. Giblin, Mr. Noyes, Mr. Pepe
  • 5th period – H214 – Ms. Grippin, ms. Perl, Ms. Sheridan

After School Regents Review

On Mondays and Thursdays, students preparing for a regents examination can go to H217 for help in their studies. This can include working on homework and/or test corrections as we finish the year.

Math Content Area Labs (CALs)

These can be assigned into your daily schedule and are all staffed by a math teacher.  They function roughly like math study halls that you get a grade in, where you can get additional support with homework, test corrections, or extra practice for tests.  If I think that a Math CAL would be appropriate for you, I may recommend to your counselor and/or parent/guardian that one be added.  You may also make this request yourself — if regular daily math help sounds appealing, please let me know.

Math Tutors

Some tutors work for free and some are paid, but they can all provide one-on-one help on any math class here at IHS.  Ask me or Ms. Perl or Ms. Seifert in the math department office (H215) for a list.
