# Algebra 1 Assignment for 5/24

We finished our review of sequences today, and if you missed any part of it you can find the completed notes here. I would also recommend you watch this video to catch up on some of the important parts of what you missed.

Your homework is Topical Review – Sequences (HW). This is a collection of actual Regents questions that have come up about arithmetic and geometric sequences, so it should give you a good idea of what you need to be able to do. Remember that this homework assignment is worth two credits!

Unfortunately, we ran out of time in class to finish the Sequences Review (not a great start!) but we will adjust.

Look ahead on the notes from class and see what you can do on your own. We’ll do the rest together tomorrow.

## Algebra 1 Final Exam Information

### Featured

The Algebra I (Common Core) Regents examination, given Tuesday, June 13, will be your final exam for the course, worth 20% of your overall final grade. For more information about the exam itself, logistics for taking it, and advice, please see the Final Exam Information handout given/emailed on the first day of review.  Check the Exam Review Calendar for a breakdown of what we will be doing to review for the exam.

Completion of daily review assignments will be crucial to your success on the test. As a result, all review homework assignments count double towards your 4th marking period HW grade. The first credit will count as a new HW credit, and the second will be used to replace a missed HW from earlier in the marking period (or, if there are none, as an extra HW credit for the review).

Today, we completed a field test as required by New York State. If you were not in class, you do not have to make this up. We will start to review for the Regents exam on Tuesday.

Tonight, please finish the Pre-Review HW Assignment (Are You an Algebra Ace?) that you got in class on Friday. Note that all of the answers you find should add up to exactly 100. I’ll also tell you that the answer to the last question, number 14, is 27.

Now that we’re done with Unit 11, we’re going to start reviewing for the final exam. We’ll get started in earnest on Monday, but over the weekend please work on the Review Preview found here.

Study for your Unit 11 test tomorrow. Refer to the Unit 11 Test Review (and the Review Solutions) as your primary source of studying. You can also use the review in your textbook (starting on page 499). You should of course also review your Function Transformations notes.

Any missing homework is due with the test tomorrow and will need to be turned in to Dr. Yerky.

We continued with Unit 11 today, skipping ahead to Lesson 6 – Piecewise Linear Functions. Work on the homework problems found on p 489-490. We will also have a second attempt at the function transformations quiz tomorrow (with a third attempt later in the week), so review your notes for that!

We did some more practice with function transformations in class today. At the start of class on Monday, we will have a short mini-quiz on these transformations. You’ll have 3-4 attempts on this quiz, and your highest grade will be the one saved.

This weekend, practice some more with transformations using IXL modules P.2 and P.4, both from the Algebra 2 tab (linked below)

We have started our last unit before we start reviewing for our final exam in June. This is a very short one (see the calendar and unit information here), so it is very important for you to stay on top of things this unit as there won’t be much time to catch up if you fall behind.

We started with Unit 11, Lesson 1 – Function Transformations. The homework is pages 469-470

# After School Regents Review

From now until the end of the school year, students taking classes that end in a regents exam (like Algebra 1!) can go to H217 after school on Mondays and Thursdays to ask questions, work on review, and generally prepare for the exam.

While the sessions are supposed to be for preparing for the exam directly, the teachers involved have stated they would be willing to help students with other work relevant to their class. This could include homework help or test corrections. Keep in mind, though, that they will need to prioritize their attention to students looking for help for their Regents exam directly.

Your test is tomorrow! Here’s what you should do to prepare:

• Review your vocabulary notes. There’s a lot of vocabulary in this unit that have very particular and important definitions. Make sure you know them well.
• Do some more review with Statistics Review 2, or with the review exercises in your workbook. Answers to the review you got in class can be found here, while answers to the textbook review can be provided by email (just send me a message).
• Work on some IXL review. I’ve bolded the ones that would be particularly useful.

Today we did part 2 of the Global Stats Project, comparing the Gender Inequality Index data for each country you researched previously to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the country. Your homework tonight is to finish this work. If you weren’t in class, please check your email for a scan of your data from part 1 (you’ll obviously need it to finish part 2).

The second part of the pick Unit 10 rewrite is today: Lesson 7 – Evaluating Appropriateness and Reliability of Linear Models. The notes are posted below, as is a video discussing how to calculate and understand residuals and the correlation coefficient.

Some of the biggest rewrites in the unit are happening now: we’ve essentially taken all of the remaining lessons and condensed them into two. Today, do the modified version of Homework 6: Bivariate Data Analysis. You may want to refer to the calculator reference sheet for a refresher on how to get a linear model on your calculator, or view the video linked below.

In class today, please refer to the student survey data found here.

Complete the homework assignment for Unit 10, Lesson 5 – Two Way Frequency Tables. This assignment is also an edited version of the original version from the workbook, but it’s close enough to the original version that Kirk’s video should still be useful.
