InCA Assignments for Week of 4/13 – Lesson 6.1 (Review of Right Triangle Trig)

Update (4/19): The Google Form Worksheet (HW 6.1) was due on Friday. Ms. Alexander has created a video going through the answers to this assignment, which you can find here.


Update (4/17): In addition to the Google Form Worksheet and Desmos activity listed below, please complete this updated poll about your preferences regarding Zoom vs Google Meet, as well as your thoughts about how Distance Learning 2.0 is going for this class.


Update (4/16): For PROBLEM SET 2 this week, complete this Google Form Worksheet. Submit your answers to this and to your Desmos activity by Friday the 17th at 2:00 pm. As with the Desmos activity, completing this activity is required and will be counted towards your MP4 grade. You must obtain a minimum score of six out of 14 points to receive credit, but your grade will not be based on how many points you get (just whether or not you made that cutoff). When you submit, the form will tell you which answers were right or wrong, and should give you an option to go back and revise as needed to reach the target score.

Be sure you click the “Sign in with Google” button to connect your responses to your ICSD Google Account.

You will need a calculator to complete this assignment. Use your own graphing calculator (if you have one), open a new tab and use the Desmos calculator, or click the little calculator icon at the top of the activity to use the built-in calculator.

If you need a little more help in using inverse trig functions to find missing angles, I recommend this video.

InCA DISTANCE LEARNING 2.0 SCHEDULE

  • MONDAY
    • Content Posted: Introductory lesson video, notes for video, supplemental practice problems (with answers)
    • Student Responsibilities (MUST DO’s):
      • Watch lesson video and follow along with posted notes (either print or write out by hand)
      • Complete initial practice problems and check answers with online key
      • Work due by Tuesday at 1:00 pm
  • TUESDAY
    • Virtual Classroom Session (Zoom): From 1:00 to 2:00pm. Check email or class website for log-in instructions
    • Student Responsibilities (MUST DO’s):
      • Attend virtual classroom session prepared with questions
      • Ask questions, work on collaborative activities as instructed by teacher

In summary: Each week we’ll be posting 1-2 lesson videos along with a Desmos activity. Your learning from these will be supplemented by a virtual classroom on Tuesdays, though I am available to meet individually as you see necessary. By Friday at 2:00, you should complete the Desmos activity and the problem set posted on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. This work is mandatory and graded.

Each day, I will be updating this post with new content, instructions, and activities. Check back daily!


UNIT 6 STARTS HERE

We have decided to move on to Unit 6, which is a short unit on Right Triangle Trigonometry. A lot of this content should feel familiar to you from your work in Geometry, but don’t worry if you don’t remember it!

  • Watch the Lesson 6.1 introductory video here.Desmos Degree Mode
  • Follow along with pages 1 and 2 of the notes posted here (print if you can, or copy onto a blank piece of note paper)
    • Use your graphing calculator if you have one, otherwise use the Desmos calculator (just be sure to click the wrench in the upper right-hand corner and click “Degrees”)
    • Click the calculator icon at the bottom of the page, then click “functions” to access the trig functions (sin, cos, tan), or just type the command into the lines on the left.
  • Complete the additional practice problems (page 3) of the notes document linked above
  • A copy of the notes, plus answers to the additional practice problems, can be found here (check them when you’re done!)
  • You should complete (or at least start!) this work by Tuesday, 4/14 at 2:00 pm so that you can ask questions about it during our virtual classroom session
